Column is a large settlement in Suffolk County that is popular for its central location and affordability. Rebecca Leuck, an associate broker at Realty Connect USA, states that the 14-square-mile community is in demand for all types of housing and housing styles as there are few properties on the market.
Leak says the village has no main street and most of the commerce takes place on either Middle Country Road or Route 112. “There are some new businesses in the area,” she says. This may indicate growth due to work and new residents.
Plans to bring sewers into the community will strengthen the commercial base and allow more restaurants and other “wet” businesses to come to the area, says Brookhaven City Councilman Michael Logelcio. “This is a project I’m working on,” he said, adding that these changes won’t happen in the next two years.

He said Taco Bell was coming to town, and another fast-food restaurant was interested in the former Astoria Bank building.
Riley says he wants people to unite and foster the spirit of the community. “Most of it has to do with what people see,” he says. “We want to work on some beautification projects.”
