Officials said a head-on collision between a sports utility vehicle and a car in West Hampton on Friday afternoon killed the driver of each car.
A statement by Southampton Town police identified the dead as Remsenburg’s Christine Kebe, 63, and Kachog’s William Vogel, 89.
Both were sentenced to death at the Peconic Bay Medical Center after the crash at 2:08 pm, police said.
According to police, Kebe grabbed the steering wheel of the 2008 Honda CRV heading east on the Montauk Highway, and Vogel drove the 2010 Honda Accord heading west on the Montauk Highway. According to police, Vogel then caused a collision across Kebbe’s lane.
According to police, Kebe’s dog was in the car with her during the clash. According to police, Southampton Town animal care personnel treated the dog.
Investigations were underway to determine the cause of the crash, police said.
