According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office, an early Sunday fire at Floral Park destroyed or severely damaged several companies along Covert Avenue.
It took more than four hours for firefighters to put down the fire, said Michael Uttaro, deputy firefighter secretary of Nassau.
Twenty-three fire departments answered their first call at 6:32 am and a fire broke out at Park Place Restaurant on 41 Covert Avenue.
One firefighter who responded to the fire was treated at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola and is in stable condition.
According to Uttaro, six companies were severely damaged or destroyed. There was also smoke damage in the private house.
Nassau County Fire Investigator Office and Nassau County Police Arson and Bomb Disposal Unit are also under investigation.
“On arrival, the fire department encountered a very advanced fire and, due to its old construction, spread rapidly to adjacent areas,” Uttaro said.
“A tragic morning at Floral Park, seeing restaurant and shop owners along Covert Avenue destroy their businesses and lives in a catastrophic fire,” Hempstead supervisor Don Krabin said on Twitter. I did.
