Pollsters wearing masks from a few villages on Long Island were still counting ballots early Wednesday, as voters delayed voting in the elections due to a coronavirus pandemic.
Elections, usually held in March and June, have been postponed to September 15, this year, after Governor Andrew M. Cuomo issued an executive order to postpone voting in the village. At least eight villages that participated in the contest did not get final results by midnight on Tuesday, partly due to the absentee ballot count.
Even when Lawrence finished voting at 9 pm, more than 110 people were waiting in line for the vote. This is in addition to the hundreds of absentee votes still being counted at midnight.
“I’ve been electing here since 2000 and I’ve never remembered such a turnout,” Castro said.
The following results were available at the beginning of Wednesday.
